Uterine (Uterus) Endometrium Cancer
Uterus; It consists of two parts, the cervix and the body. The inner part of the body is also called the endometrium. The endometrium layer in the uterus is the tissue (membrane) layer that forms the inner surface of the uterus and thickens during pregnancy. Thickening of the endometrium in the uterus is necessary for the fertilized egg cell to settle in the uterus and to maintain the pregnancy. However, in some cases, while the endometrium cells want to thicken, they divide and multiply uncontrollably and thus tumor tissues are formed. Obesity, diabetes, hypertension, infections and some hormonal factors can cause endometrial cancer.
Surgery is preferred for treatment. The most commonly preferred method is removal of the uterus (hysterectomy). If the cancer cells have not spread outside the uterus, hysterectomy is the definitive solution, while if the cancer cells have spread to other organs and/or lymphatic tissues, radiation or chemotherapy treatment should be applied after surgery.
