Cervical Cancer (Cervical-Neck Cancer)
The cervix is the neck-shaped part of a woman`s uterus that connects to the vagina. It is the part that connects the uterus and vagina to each other. Cervical cancers are the most common gynecological cancers in the world. It is one of the main causes of death from cancer in women. Cervical cancer occurs in cells in the lower part of the uterus called the cervix. The most common cause occurs when the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus (HPV) gradually starts to turn some of the cervical cells into cancer over the years.
smear test, which is used for screening purposes, makes a significant contribution both in terms of early diagnosis and in reducing mortality rates from cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the only gynecological cancer that can be prevented by regular screening.
Early diagnosis is the most important factor in success in treatment. The type of treatment to be applied is determined by factors such as the location, type, stage of the cancer, the patient`s age, general health status and whether they want a child. Surgery is the first choice in the treatment of cervical cancer diagnosed at an early stage. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are other treatment methods applied. Today, there is a vaccine developed against this virus.
