Uterine Prolapse (Pelvic Organ Prolapse)
Pelvic organ prolapse is the displacement of organs such as the uterus, urinary bladder, vagina, intestines, which should be located in the abdomen, from the vagina to the outside of the abdomen by hanging down. Pelvic organ prolapse is a very common condition. In some patients, the uterus does not come out of the vagina, sometimes it goes down slightly with straining, sometimes it goes out of the vagina with straining, and sometimes it comes out of the vagina completely.
The reason for wrapping is the weakening of the muscles and connective tissue that hold the abdominal organs in place over time. The main reasons for this situation are; multiple pregnancy, vaginal births, obesity, aging, chronic cough, excessive straining, menopause, heavy lifting, constipation, some connective tissue diseases.
Treatment of uterine prolapse varies depending on the severity of the prolapse. It is possible to benefit from pelvic floor exercises in the early stages or in cases of slight sagging. In mild cases, surgical repair of weakened pelvic floor tissues can be performed. However, if the uterine prolapse is very severe, surgical removal of the uterus (hysterectomy) may be required. The aim of surgical treatment is to correct the anatomical structure without impairing sexual functions.
